Chakra is Sanskrit for wheel. Chakras are energy vortices or energy spirals in the human body. You see in order to run this vehicle we inhabit, the human body, energy must flow throughout it. There are seven central chakras in the body and vary in size and color depending on one’s health and development.
The first Chakra is known as the Root Chakra which is at the base of the spine. The frequency of the root chakra creates the color red. It represents being grounded, and is responsible for the emotional issues of survival such as food, finance, and shelter.
Second, the Sacral Chakra, is located in the lower abdomen and its frequency creates the color orange. It represents our ability to accept others and new experiences. It is responsible for the emotional attributes of well- being, a sense of abundance, sexuality, and pleasure.
The third chakra is called the Solar Plexus Chakra and resonates at the frequency that creates yellow. This is located in the upper abdomen and is responsible for the emotional issues of self-worth, self-esteem, and self-confidence.
The fourth Chakra is the Heart Chakra. It resonates at a frequency that creates green and pink and is located in the center of the chest right above the heart. It represents the ability to love and is responsible for the emotional attributes of love, joy, and inner peace.
The Throat Chakrais the fifth, which resonates at the frequency which creates the color blue. It represents one’s ability to communicate properly and is responsible for self- expression and honesty. It rests over the thyroid gland.
The sixth chakra is called the Third Eye Chakra which resonates at a frequency creating the color indigo. It is located in the forehead between the eyes. It is responsible for intuitive thinking, imagination, wisdom, and decision making.
The Seventh chakra is called the Crown chakra. Located at the top of the head, it resonates at the frequency of violet and is responsible for the ability to be fully connected spiritually. There are several other chakras but for the sake of simplicity, the main ones are typically what Reiki practitioners focus on.
